How we work

How we work, start to finish.

AI does the busywork. I do the craft.

A free consultation, an estimate in hours, and a live report that shows every hour as it is used. AI tools take care of the repetitive work, so your hours go to design, decisions and polish. Every one of those decisions is still mine.

  • Reply in one business day
  • Task and time tracking
  • Live, up-to-date reports
  • No one-prompt builds

LiveMy own reports for this website. They update as I work, and every client gets a pair like them.

Step by step

What happens, step by step?

Six steps, start to finish. Nothing is billed before you approve an estimate, and you talk to me, the person doing the work, the whole way through.

  1. 01

    Free consultation

Tell me what you need. I reply within one business day, and we talk it through.

  2. 02

    Estimate in hours

You get an estimate in hours for the whole project, before anything is billed.

  3. 03

    Choose how to pay

Prepay a block, or pay as you go. One block covers any service.

  4. 04

    Design and build

I design, build and test, and you see every task on your live report as it is done.

  5. 05

    Review and launch

You check it and ask for changes. Nothing goes live without your OK.

  6. 06

    Keep going

Hours left over never expire. Use them for SEO, updates or your next project.

Billing

How am I billed?

Only for the time the work takes. Hours are timed from the work itself and rounded once per block, so a coffee break or a wait for your reply never shows up on your bill.

The rules, in plain words.

  • Timed from the work itself. Hours come from the working sessions, start to finish.
  • A pause over 15 minutes ends a block. Coffee breaks and waiting time are not billed.
  • Rounded once, per block. Each block rounds up to the next quarter hour, never per task.
  • Work done away from the desk is listed on its own line, with what it was for.
  • Pay as you go is billed weekly in 1‑hour steps, with a 2‑hour minimum. Small jobs are billed when done; bigger projects start with a deposit.
  • After a block, a few more hours are $75 an hour but still counted in 15‑minute steps, with no 2‑hour minimum, and usually paid when the work is done.

Example work blockTimes are made up

  1. Block9:00 to 11:35The 10‑minute pause stays inside it
  2. Time worked2 h 35 minThe 40 minutes away ends the block
  3. Billed2.75 hRounded up once, to the next quarter hour
An example work block from 9:00 to 11:35 AM: 65 minutes of work, a 10‑minute pause that stays inside the block, then 80 more minutes. A 40‑minute break ends the block, so 2 hours 35 minutes is rounded up once to 2.75 hours.

Live reports

What will I see while you work?

Two live reports, from day one. One shows every hour and task, the other what was built, in plain words. Here are mine for this website.

AI-assisted

Do you use AI?

Yes, every day. AI does the busywork. I do the craft. It is the assistant that never gets tired of resizing 75 logos, checking a page at six screen widths, or keeping every task and next step in order. It doesn't design your site. Every layout, color and word is chosen by a designer working since 1996, and every detail is manually reviewed before it ships.

One person who can approve. Waiting on an answer can push back the finish date.

Questions

Straight answers.

The questions people ask most about how a project runs, how hours are counted and how AI fits in.

Updated

Do you use AI to build websites?

Yes, as an assistant, every day. AI tools handle the repetitive work: resizing images, testing pages at every screen size, first drafts of code and search data, and keeping the task list and next steps up to date. Every design decision is mine, and every detail is manually reviewed before it ships. There are no one-prompt builds here.

Who keeps my project on track?

I do, with a lot of help. AI tools keep the task list, the next steps and the time log current, and flag anything that is waiting on you or on me, so nothing slips between conversations. You see the same picture on your live report.

Will my website look like an AI template?

No. Every layout is designed for your business, from your brand, your customers and your content. AI speeds up the building; it doesn’t pick the design.

Does AI make my project cost less?

It makes every hour go further. The tedious parts take minutes instead of hours, so more of your time goes to design, content and the details your customers notice. You see where every hour went on your live report.

How are my hours counted?

From the work sessions themselves. A pause longer than 15 minutes ends a work block, and each block is rounded up once to the next quarter hour, never per task. The hours on your report are the hours you are billed.

Do I pay while you wait for my answers?

No. Hours are only counted while I am working. Waiting for your feedback, content or logins costs you nothing.

What happens when my hours run out?

You can see your hours on your live report the whole time, and I tell you before you go past what you have paid for. Then you choose how to continue: another block, or a few more hours. If you need a few more hours after a block, they’re billed at $75 an hour but still counted in 15‑minute steps, with no 2‑hour minimum, and usually paid when the work is done. For bigger jobs, another block saves you money; larger hourly jobs may need a deposit.

Can I see my report anytime?

Yes. You get a private link to your hours report and your work summary. They update as I work, and the same link always shows the latest.

How quickly do you reply?

Within one business day. You talk to me directly, the person doing the work, not an account manager.

Who owns the finished work?

You do, once it is paid for: your website, your domain and the final files I deliver. You can take your site to any host you like. Working files, like layered Photoshop, Illustrator or After Effects files, stay with me. See the Terms of Service.

Is the consultation free?

Yes. The consultation and the estimate are free. You only pay once you choose how to pay and the work starts. See Pricing.
